My Great Grandfather's name is Douglas Basil West. When my great grandfather was in the war he went to Eygpt.
My great grandfather sacrificially served as a gunner in World War 2 in Northern Italy and when he was in the war, he was a gunner and when a grenade exploded a bit of the grenade hit him in the back. The hospital couldn't get it out but that isnt the way he died. My great grandfather luckily died by old age.
I always think that he's lucky.
When my great grandfather was in the war there was no unattacking aeroplanes so when he got hit in the back he had to go on an ambulance boat. When my great grandfather got hit and got put in the ambulance boat, the boat made cloudy stuff come out so the Germans couldn't see them.
When my great grandfather was in the war he went to Eygpt and he rode there in a Bren carrier.
When my great grandfather wrote letters to Nan Nan, his wife, she always got cut up letters because they weren't allowed to tell people where they were and what they doing.
Tuesday - This week has begun just as busy as every other week at St Peter Chanel School. Yesterday was a wet and cold day and we were able to watch a movie at lunch time. This has been a new treat for us this year for two reasons. One reason was that we had a faulty projector on our interactive white board and our summer and early autumn had been superb! We watched Finding Nemo it is Mrs Russell's most favourite movie.
This morning we did not begin with prayers like we usually do but by singing with Michael Mangan in Room Six. We had a great time as we already knew a lot of his songs. We are looking forward to his new CD which he will have finished in two months.
Mrs Russell might bring Rosie back to school to visit Room Three again. We all hope she does! Watch our blog to see if Mrs Russell remembers!!!
Kia Ora - Welcome to Room Three's Weekly blog.
This week we have been learning about ANZAC Day and why it is so important for us to remember. We had a special shared prayer on Tuesday afternnon which Room Three led. We sang the national anthem and used symbols such as rosemary and a cross to help people to remember. After shared prayer we went into family groups and made poppies and ANZAC wreaths. In class as part of our learning we found facts about ANZAC to share with each other.
