We have been reading a new chapter book, Matilda. It's a classic tale which has been enjoyed by children for many many years. It's about a little girl who has some special talents, crazy parents, a horrid head mistress and a lovely teacher. Matilda LOVES to read!!!

Welcome Term Two!!!
A new busy term has begun...we have started the second part of our inquiry unit "Neighbours- ours in the South Pacific". We are learning about the process of finding out and questioning. It does get tricky thinking up questions that are good inquiry questions. We have learned that both fat and skinny questions are important when we are learning new things but to make a great inquiry a fatter question is better. Today we wrote our first questions and then as a class categorised them as fat and skinny. We are becoming better at this.
MISS KENNY
Miss Melissa Kenny is our third year teacher and we love having her in Room Three. She is beginning a three week placement in our Room soon ...very awesome. We learn so many new things when we have two teachers!
WINTER SPORTS
In the winter we play team sports. Some of our class are in more than one sport team. The sports we play include Netball, Miniball, Soccer, Rugby and Hockey. We play Miniball and netball in school teams.
In Term one Years three to six had a science afternoon each Tuesday. We learned a lot about experimenting and chemical reactions and about science in cooking. In Term Two we are mixing it up again and are doing two units around the arts of drama and dance. Mrs A is taking us for dance and Mrs Russell is taking us for drama. We are so looking forward to it.

Easter Week Important Notice
I am sure all the children will be very disappointed but because of two three day weeks I have suspended spelling until week ten. I encourage the children to continue to read for pleasure at home. Below are some book series that children are excited about reading at the moment...

Theres a Boy in the Girls Bathroom.
Watch this space for snippets from our reviews about our chapter book that Mrs Russell has just finished reading to us. It is called There's a Boy in the Girls Bathroom and it is written by Louis Sachar.
Paris Laws - I recommend this book because it is funny, sad and it wants you to read more and focus on it more.
Ethan Barltrop - I recommend this book because its funny and its just cool to read and you actually learn things from it like how to be a proper friend.
Jack Wilson - I liked the character Bradley Chalkers the best because Bradley made me laugh especially when he said 'shut up'. He is very funny and at the end he changes his personality. He is the main character and he learns about making friends.
Tama Iraia - I recommend this book because it is very funny and it teaches us good things to do and not bad things.
Belle Duncan - I recommend this book because it makes me laugh and it keeps me listening to it being read to me.
Thomas Spek - My favourite character is Ronnie. Ronnie is Bradley's favourite toy in the whole entire world. He is so special.
Mitchell Willems - My favourite character is Bradley Chalkers. He had no friends except his toys. It was sad.

Our Quiet Critters and Top Secret Rewards
We would love to tell you all about our reward and management systems Mrs Russell has put in place this year. They are helping us to stay focussed and on task in class.
Our first one is called 'Quiet Critters'. During the holidays Mrs Russell made about thirty little fuzzy critters out of little pompoms. They each have a pair of googly eyes and felt feet. They live all together in a glass jar in no particular order. They do get sick of having each other's feet in their eyes and absolutely hate being stuck in the middle where they cannot see anything going on in Room three. Our Quiet Critters love to be out on their home pads - we each have one stuck on the corner of our desk. But what the Critters love most is QUIET shhhhh! We need to respect that and so when they are out we are quiet. When it is time for them to go back we get a number from our hundreds chart and go into the prize box draw ... and guess what you can be pulled out for a pick in the box more than once in the same draw. It happened to a couple of the children. Lucky ah?
The second one is called Top Secret. Mrs Russell pulls a name out of the fancy green tin and puts it into our TOP SECRET envelope and then it is velcroed high onto the wall. No one knows who it is - not even Mrs Russell. At the end of the day Mrs Russell looks at the name and if the Top Secret person has been good, on task and caring they get a pick in the box, but if that person has not been good, on task or caring the name goes back in the fancy green tin and no one knows who it was - EVER. Sometimes Mrs Russell 'Top Secrets' a table group - that is harder!

2013 Here we are!!
It has taken us a few weeks to settle back into the Room Three routine. This year we are made up of 20 Year Three and Four children- 14 boys and six girls. We still have Charlie our budgie and Zebedee (zebra), our class mascot and his friend Geronimo (giraffe). Charlie goes home every weekend with one of us and gets very spoilt when he is away from school. Actually this week he is meeting two girl birds - Shirley and Cee-Cee, Eliabel's budgies so maybe they will become good friends.
We have had a busy time this term already and have introduced some new things into our week.
Every Monday we are learning Te Reo and Tikanga with Whaea Myra. We are getting very clever and some of us are turning into the stars of the class when answering questions in Maori.
Each Tuesday afternoon we are learning soccer skills with Football South - so much fun and we are learning so much. Then we turn into scientists for an hour. When we are with Mrs Russell we are learning about the Three States of Matter - solid, liquid and gas with fun and exciting demonstrations that we turn into experiments by just asking a question like "What if put in less of that?" With Mrs Atkinson we are learning the Science in Cooking. We have made pikelets, bread, jelly and hokey pokey - yummeeee!
The Room Two Year threes' come into our class for 40 minutes for Religious Education every Wednesday and Thursday. It is great fun when we are all together. We have been doing drama - role plays and freeze frames to show how we grow in holiness. We showed some of them at the last assembly.Our art is finally up in the classroom. Our self portraits look so good and so does our weather art.
